Okay - I need help. I painted her face ata high resolution / large scale and it looked fine. When I reduced the image, it looked all wrong!! I've re-painted it twice now... each time I think I've got it right in high res, I reduce the image and it looks like shit.

I think her nose is too long... and do her eyes need to be closer together? Either that or they need to be brought down a notch. I mirrored the image and it didn't look too bad. :frustrated: This is driving me nuts!!

 thanks in advance!

I am learning about drawing the human face as we speak and taking what I have learned and used it on this image. There is nothing wrong with the face. The eyes, nose, and head are all in proportion except for the distance of the ear. It is to close to her eye. Rule of thumb with this is the length from the bottom of the chin to the center of the eye equals the distance from the end of the outer eye to the end of the ear. But by looking at some of your other drawings… I think you already know that.

As far as the shrunk version, the image will always distort some when it is reduced from its original size.

 thank you!! :) I really appreciate that you've answered. And you're right - her ear does need to be moved back a bit (and I didn't know that rule of thumb - that's really helpful, thanks!) - I will definitely bear that in mind when I come to painting her ears.

As for her face... I guess that's why it looks okay on a larger scale! How annoying... I wonder what tricks other people use to make their smaller views look so stunning? Maybe once her hair etc. is painted, it won't look too bad... it's just that after 4 hours of painting and re-painting, one gets rather irrational ;)

 Thanks again!

you know why its cause the face when compaired to the res of the image as a whole is such a tiny thign, now whenyou reduce its es how small are we talkign about, if anythign from the looks i can imagine it being the nos eliek you said, but take into consideration the light as well cause if you step back and look her faces is primarily 3 blotches of white with purple hues around it.......... ok im reducing the image as we speak, i think its the highights you gave her face, her skin is pretty dark apparently and those hight lights liek said are shinngin trough the other features, honestly at the resolution its at RIGHT NOW its nice, her left eye might seem a bit slanted up wards, maybe slantign it down a degree or 2 would be nice, nut theres nothign that i see wrong

I think it has something to do with the top of her nose : her nose is in the same plane than her forehead, without a hollow at the top of the nose (I hope you understand what I mean)

That said, it's a beautiful pic of a pretty lady  and :+fav:

I believe it has something to do with the program that they use like adobe for example. How they do it, I wish I knew for I do not have those type of programs to play with. :sniff:

In the end, I want her to have an 'uplighted' effect from the orb she is carrying... but it looks like I went a bit overboard on the highlighting! thanks for the advice! I'll try to 'smooth' the highlight / shadows out to see if that makes a difference.

:blushes: he hee... that's always been a problem area of mine! I'll add in a hollow and see if that helps (and tone down the highlighting too)

Yay! I'll get there eventually! (and ye didn't need to fav this! Bu thanks anyway ;) )

:giggle: As opposed to people like us who just reduce stuff and hope for the best... maybe it is worth investing in making decent preview images ;)
